The challenges in project management
As a project manager, you know that you need to keep an overview, manage your team effectively and still chalk up profits. The solution for all three pillars lies in Jira epics. They form the backbone of your project structure in Jira, as large goals or work packages. However, despite the structure provided by epics, which unite many tasks under one roof, the true progress of a project can often remain unclear. Too often you have to dive into each individual issue to determine the overall progress. A time-consuming and error-prone task. There are several solutions for a faster evaluation. But how far the path to the ideal overview has to be is up to you.
Automation and custom fields don't always help
Automations are a common approach to improving the project overview. You can aggregate certain values such as time data from an epic and the associated issues and summarize them in a custom field. However, there are two main problems with this approach: Firstly, such automations are sometimes complex to set up. Secondly, Atlassian has recently introduced limits for automations for Jira, which further restricts the possibilities.
